The Light at the End of Winter
By February, I'm thoroughly done with winter. The short days, the cold, the grey skies - it wears on you. That's when this countdown becomes my mental lifeline. Watching the days tick down to spring keeps me going.
The spring equinox (around March 20) is the official turning point. From that day on, days get longer than nights. It's not immediately warm, but the promise of warmth is there. That's enough.
Spring Prep Checklist
Things I start doing as the countdown gets closer:
Start seeds indoors if you garden. Order summer sports equipment. Begin spring cleaning, one room at a time.
Service the lawn mower, check garden tools. Schedule AC maintenance. Rotate winter clothes to the back.
Clean windows (amazing how much light this adds). Prep outdoor furniture. Plan Easter if you celebrate.
Go outside. Walk without a heavy coat. Notice the birds. Breathe. Winter is officially over.
Things to Look Forward To
π· Flowers Coming Back
Crocuses first, then daffodils, tulips, cherry blossoms. After months of brown, that first splash of color hits different.
π€οΈ More Daylight
Days finally getting longer. Finishing work when it's still light out. Evening walks become possible again.
π΄ Outdoor Activities
Running without layers. Biking without frozen fingers. Golf courses opening. Tennis courts drying out. The world opens up.
πͺ Open Windows
That first day when you can open the windows and air out the house. Fresh air after months of sealed-up heating. Simple but underrated.
